Kudremukh -Preamble

The virtue of having republic day on a monday meant a long weekend was in the offing. So, on our new year nightout, discussions about the possible destination began.Like WTO doha rounds, the talks here also remained inconclusive, and ended without any agreement. Discussions continued online for three more weeks.
The top destination contenders were Bramahagiri, Sakaleshpur and Tadiyandamol. Mails arguing for each one of the contenders flew left and right.Bramagiri was touted as top contender since 'k.p. manja' refused to come to Sakaleshpur. However,in typical sommarigala fashion this decision was made just 4 days before the planned trip. The RFO (Range forest officer) of bramagiri played havoc with this plan by refusing to give the permit. So, we were back to square one.Another set of mail conversations ensued. Finally,it was decided to have a poll. Even with my best intentions to create a deadlock the poll found a winner - it was sakaleshpur. This meant that trip would have only 5 specimens as among the other 2 -manja would not subscribe to this destination and the other one, karthik was in a '50-50' state as he himself so eloquently put it!!. However, considering the mixed reactions to this destination and some concerns about both the safety and possibility of getting arrested meant even this destination was ruled out. So, when the thread had 84 posts, Karthik MR, whose was probably in a '60-40' state at the moment posted this message, "Lets decide on one place before we hit 100 posts on this thread." This kindled a great desire in me to ensure such a event would not happen.I began to spam the conversation ably supported by pavya and a couple of mails from puma ensued that we were beyond 100 with no clear winners. Suddenly, a dark horse appeared out of nowhere, which was kudremukh (Could you belive it, it had kudre(horse) embedded in its name itself).

K.P. Manja was extremely enthusiastic about this place and his roomie sent a mail which unlike other mails left no room for discussions. It was as he so clearly put it ' was decided' that we would spend the first long weekend of 2009 in kudremukh. Suddenly, it hit upon me that this was close to my aunt's place and i was sitting on invitation to visit them from the last one and half years. With just one call to my aunt, our accommodation and transportion in kudremukh. was taken care of. K.P manged to book tickets to Karkala on firday night and return from kudermukh on sunday night. We were now on the way!!!.

In the beginning!

Barely a month after, 'fate ' as some would like to call or just 'regrettable CET counselling decisions' as others might have put it, three members of the somaarigala gang decided to go out for their first movie outing. They set the benchmarks pretty high from their very first outing. It had all the elements of any future movie outing they would have, namely - an inordinate amount of time taken to decide the film, the cinema hall and the show that it needs to be watched . But, thankfully since this group were bereft of any real options they homed in on watching the movie on a Sunday @Plaza. Thanks to the image below.I guess i don't have to type the movie which  we watched.( In typical somaarigala tradition)

But for people who are confused to another movie by the very exact same. I wish to clarify that  this was in a completely different genre (absolutely).
The then 1/16 engineers ( not that rest 15/16 made any difference) after much trepidation finally got to onto buying tickets only to realize that tickets were almost completely sold out. They only managed to  get the tickets for what is famously termed as 'Gandhi class' .Watching the movie there is surreal experience. Movie is almost going on your eyes!. Personally for this author, this was also  a test of innocence quotient of his new friends, which to his liking was found to be very low.Anyone who has watched this movie and enjoyed it must agree.
After the movie a visit was made to a small park this author had discovered many years before and which he thought was fitting to share with these Bangalore newbies. The ritual of visiting this park was repeated after for many such visits. However, this was as they say was just the beginning!
